Travel Bursaries

General Information

Travel bursaries are available from the ARR to attend both our annual ARR meeting and alternative, radiation focused non-ARR meetings. Please note the annual deadlines are only for the non-ARR meetings, the ARR annual meeting bursaries will have a separate call linked with abstract submission (see more details in specifiic entries below).

Eligibility

Bursaries to attend the annual ARR meeting are taken from both members and non-members. Non-members must agree to join the ARR for a period of at least two years following the meeting.
Bursaries to attend non-ARR meetings are only accepted from ARR members who have been in good standing for the previous year. Applicants will be expected to present their work at the meeting applied for and should submit copies of the abstract with their application. The Association for Radiation Research should be appropriately acknowledged in any poster or oral presentation. Bursaries will not be awarded to the same person in two consecutive years. Bursaries are available to students and non-students.

Value

Up to a maximum of £500. Bursaries will contribute to the covering of travel costs (economy fares), registration fees and cost of accommodation. The total sum requested should be stated in the application. Applicants should provide evidence of how costs beyond that which can be claimed from the ARR will be met. Upon successful application, the ARR will request receipts for the expenses claimed via the ARR as proof of purchase.

1. Non-ARR annual meeting travel bursaries

Deadlines: 31st March, 30th June, 30th Sept, 31st December each year.

To apply for these awards, applicants should provide:

  • A curriculum vitae
  • A copy of the submitted abstract
  • A letter of support
  • For more established scientists a letter describing the benefits of attending the meeting

These documents should be sent to the ARR secretary Isabel Pires by email.
Applicants will be notified of outcome within 1 month.
Successful recipients must acknowledge the receipt of the ARR Travel Award in the presentation they make and following the meeting provide a short written report that may be used on the Association’s website.

2. ARR annual meeting travel bursaries

Bursaries will be advertised from when the abstract submission opens and will have a different deadline to non-ARR meeting travel bursaries noted above (date to be given in advert).

Bursary decisions will be made so that unsuccessful applicants are still able to register at the early bird rate.
Bursaries cover registration and accommodation (NOT travel).
The ARR is unlikely to award more than one bursary per lab in the same year, so please consider this when applying.
A bursary does not guarantee an oral presentation at the meeting.
The ARR committee and members of the local organising committee (as necessary) will score bursary applications.

All scorers will declare a conflict of interest for applications coming from their lab.

To apply for this award, applicants should provide (please follow instructions on meeting website)

  • A curriculum vitae
  • A copy of the submitted abstract
  • A letter of support
  • For more established scientists a letter describing the benefits of attending the meeting

These documents should be sent to the ARR secretary Isabel Pires by email.
